Fixed But Not Solved

Tillamook RV Repair

After a quiet night's sleep I awake to roosters crowing and donkeys braying. I'm glad we stayed here. Employees begin to arrive for another day of work. I'm glad we aren't doing that.

We only put out the bed slide so there's not much to do after coffee and getting dressed. We arrive at the repair shop (see why here) before they open.

Bill leaves the key and our phone number, and in return gets a recommendation for breakfast in Garibaldi just up the highway. The owner makes everything from scratch, roasts her own turkeys on site, bakes the best carrot cake...okay! you had us at "scratch"!

The Parkside Café is, well, quaint. Bill points out that it definitely meets our criteria of "local" eatery.

I thought the window spoke well for a low crime rate

Even with a very small kitchen, she has a large variety of good breakfast selections including breaded oysters and classic Eggs Benedict. But we're eating lighter most of the time so a couple fresh eggs and real hash browns were a good choice for us. Very good coffee as well!

Hot and yummy for second cup
When I go in to pay she is cutting up pickles for a huge bowl of potato salad. By hand. With a knife. I can smell turkey roasting. The cinnamon rolls are a work of art. I buy a piece (slab) of carrot cake and leave (reluctantly). If you're driving through Garibaldi you have to stop here. There's room for the rig in public parking behind the café.

Do it. You'll thank me.

Drove around the little marina that has two RV parks we thought would be fun for a couple days in a cute little town.  Cell service was spotty and Bill saw he had a message when we got back on the highway.

Rig's ready - we'd been gone an hour :-)

While they were able to repair the problem by putting in new bolts, they were as baffled by the cause as we were. We'll need to keep an eye on it. I didn't ask, but I'm sure he would have mentioned any bugs......

So for $54 and a good breakfast we had our slide back and were on our way to Astoria before 11 AM. Thanks Tillamook RV Repair

Have I mentioned how much I'm loving small towns?

    1. The folks in Oregon have been especially nice - maybe because they wake up everyday in such a beautiful place :-)

    1. I actually thought about it, but wasn't willing to get rid of two others to make the room :-) So glad you're coming along with us!

  4. When I ever get back to the west coast for exploration your blog will be a great resource for places to go and places to eat. I'm still a bit surprised by the issues you have had with the new rig? Is this normal? at least you sound calm about it all.

    1. Thanks Maura, we've really enjoyed this route. From what I read the first 18 months or 10k miles there are always issues with a new rig. Most call it breaking in or working out the kinks. One would think in this price range that they would all just work the way they're designed. As long as the issues don't put us in danger we'll just ride them out.

  5. Small towns are such a delight after living in a giant city all my life! We are currently spending a month in Buffalo, WY, it's got 5,000 people...love the pace of life and lack of pretension compared to southern California.

Fingers crossed the slide holds up for a good long while!

    1. Fingers and toes crossed! We can't imagine ever returning to a big city - unless of course we find that perfect one out there somewhere :-)

  6. So glad the fix with the slide was so cheap and easy. But with a brand new MH there must be another reason for what happened. Hope all holds:)

Small town America is wonderful. We have had the best time visiting so many small towns as we travel back and forth across the country. What a great find in that restaurant! Truly homemade:) You don't find that much anymore.

    Safe travels! Enjoy Astoria!

    1. It's one of those mysteries I hope we never know the answer to :-) Definitely didn't plan enough time in this area either - will just scratch the surface of Astoria I'm afraid. And it's supposed to be almost 90 today!

  8. OK I"m sold if we're there then Parkside Cafe is IT! Sounds fabulous and I will thank you. I'd sure like to see a picture of these bolts so I know what to keep my eye on. Can you call the manufacturer and ask why this happens? We call Winnebago all the time. Their techs know everything even about their OLD rigs.

    1. As soon as we're set up near Seattle for a month I'm going to call Thor. I do wonder about the repair we got done affecting the warranty, but they're fixed and we'll see what they say. They were great when I contacted them about the warranty parts ordered by Camping World, so fingers crossed.

  9. We love finding local cafes with made-from-scratch yummy food. Looks like you found a delightful one! We'll check it out next time we're in the area. So happy that your slide issue was fixed so easily. Oh, the simple pleasures of life -- a great breakfast and a quick and inexpensive repair job! :-)

    1. We really wanted to avoid chain restaurants, especially ones we have in CA. Finding dog-friendly places to eat has really helped us do that as well :-)
