Six and Half Pounds of Precious Steals My Heart

Ezra Michael Smith, two weeks old
After a very long two week wait, Jeff and I were off to Southern California to meet Ezra. It was raining buckets all the way to SeaTac Airport, and as anticipated the security line was long. Fortunately it was moving very fast, and we were enjoying a cup of coffee and a scone 20 minutes after Bill dropped us off.

We had a quick stop over in Oakland where it was also raining. In fact we had clouds nearly the whole trip.

Wish these were all dropping rain!
Until we got further south where it was no longer the golden brown we left in June.  Now it's burnt brown and black. So dry.

And 104 degrees to welcome us back :-(

Oh well, we only had one thing to do on this quick visit - meet Ezra!

So tiny.  So perfect.
Brian and Shalise were as excited as we were for this first meeting, and there were lots of teary eyes and "oh my god!"s.  It was a very special moment to hold the little guy for the first time. My son's son.

Damn, here come those tears again.....

It was a wonderful couple days just hanging out with the new family.

Jeff stayed with them the first night so he could hang out with his brother, and I headed to the motel for the luxury of a long shower with lots of hot water.

We went out for lunch but mostly just enjoyed all being together. It was about holding and playing with Ezra, but the bonus for me was spending time with Brian and Jeff together. Something that I haven't done in a few years.

These guys

Ezra is a little guy but his parents are so great with him, they seem to really have it all figured out. Seeing the joy in their eyes when they look at him, and the love and support they give each other, filled me with such happiness.

His uncle was completely smitten as well, assuring Ezra they'd do fun and cool stuff away from his parents as soon as he was a bit bigger. Oh lord.....

Making plans

Enjoying family

Dinner with Dad

Happy baby

Dreaming about my first mustache
I might look really cool....

but what if I look lame????

So as warned, I'm completely over the moon for this little man. It wasn't long enough, but I'm so glad Jeff and I got to make the trip. Bill gets to meet him in November when we'll be there for a whole month :-)

TOO cute!!
