Three Years in the Blogosphere

May 16, 2013.....27 Months Isn't Really That Long

Many of us start blogs to keep track of our travels. I was so excited about those travels that I started this blog when we began serious planning and preparation. Those early posts are still some of my favorites.

Looking back I'm surprised at how smooth our transition was, because I still remember some pretty stressful moments!  I also remember that writing about it, sharing with others who had already been through it, or were planning too, made it a lot more fun. The milestones, the counting down, the "lasts" in anticipation of the "firsts", I'm happy I captured it all.

And I'm happy that I've stuck with it.  Just the other day I was telling my BFF how happy I am we have this journal of our wonderful adventure! Sometimes because I'd never remember where we were two weeks ago......

......but mostly because of the nomadic community we've unexpectedly become a part of. Through that initial planning period, traveling full-time, and writing about it, we have met fun and genuine people who we look forward to seeing "down the road" when the opportunity arises again. And there are those we haven't met yet who I am very much looking forward to meeting for the first time. We all come from different states and jobs and families, and still we have this great big exciting life in common.

I continue to be inspired by these wonderful people.
"Reading each other" is an amazing bond I never anticipated :-)

Looking back is great fun, but not nearly as much as looking forward. What will another year look like?????

  5. I wish I had started our blog during the "thinking and planning" phase, as you did. I'm glad I started it immediately in our travels, though, because those early posts remind me of just how exciting AND challenging it was to embark on this adventure. As you said, another wonderful aspect of blogging is the friends we've met along the way. We would never have met up with you if we hadn't met first through our blogs! :-))

    1. I'll always remember seeing you on the trail at Devil's Post Pile, and laughing to myself at how much I already knew about this "stranger". It's even more fun to read you now that we've spent time together :-))))

  6. We've been blogging our travels since 2009 (though not all on Blogger) and it is a thrill to look back on where we have been and when. Some include our kids when they went along with us. The hard part is sticking to it, which is where I find myself now. I am making a big effort for Alaska! You've done a great job for 3 years, I hope you keep it up!

    1. It was so fun to be planning and prepping when you guys were, and to follow your first months ahead of us on the road. And I'm loving reading current posts of your travels in Alaska!!!

  7. Do back up your blog somewhere. We lost our early travels when we changed blog platforms and missed the announcement that the old platform was going away. So our current blog starts in our second motorhome and on Day 7 of our drive on Historic Route 66. I get bummed out whenever I think about the records we lost.

    2. Our first blog was on Trip Journal and a couple of months ago I wondered if someday that platform would go away. So Steven downloaded all of our blogs. I was so relieved he was able to do that!

  8. It is amazing how well you can seem to get to know people you've never even met through reading their blogs and their comments on yours. Seems like a lot of the people I want to meet never come east and I can't seem to get west. I've been at this for nearly 6 years and I do love having the record of those times.

    1. Finding kindred spirits among the blogs is an even greater gift. Our plans bring us east this Fall and Winter and you know we're going to meet!!

  9. It is interesting how connected you can get to others while never meeting. I talk about my blog friends to John like they are old buddies.

Keeping the blog journals has come in handy several times when we can't remember when, where, or what:)

I'm sure the next years will be even better, if that is possible:) We are finishing up year six mid June!!

    1. I do the same thing, talking with Bill. I become vested in others' lives in a "care what happens but I'm not stalking you" kind of way :-) Meeting up with you four in Carson City certainly made a huge change in our fulltime experience - in a very good way of course!

  10. I like blogging but have trouble keeping up with daily bloggers. Blogging is writing a diary and it's easy to know where you were and what you did. It's a memory keeper. It always keeps you informed of where and what your blogging friends have been up to.

  11. I learn so much from your blog and from several others, Jodee. There are so many new places we've never known about that have been introduced to us through the blogosphere. Your journal comes with a fluffy-meter...if Tessa is smiling, it must be a good destination!

    1. We must pick those spots that she likes best - seems she's always happy (us too!) It's those unknown places that others share that make routing so interesting :-)

  12. Wow, three years already?! I'm glad we met early into your blogging because I like to 'start at the beginning' and read the history behind the blogger. I admit it's been busy here so I haven't put a post up in awhile... I'm writing this as my desk is 4' away from the wall so the wall can be painted. It's quite the MESS in here right now!!! Happy trails, till we meet again :-)))

  14. Love being part of the blogging community, with out it our full time life might not be as fun. We've made good friends we've never met and met some bloggers who've become great friends all because we put ourselves out there in blogosphere. Ours was initially started so my folks could follow our travels and that we'd have a record of what we did.

    1. I thought family and friends would want to see where we're going, but only a few of them read the blog. But the new friends we've made and the fun we have going back and seeing it ourselves have been worth the effort to keep it going. Hope we get another chance to meet again soon :-)))

  15. We started our blog just to keep a log of our travels, but never realized it would lead us to meet so many wonderful people while we've been on the road. An unexpected benefit of blogging!
