2025 Begins

 January 1 - 15, 2025
Tombstone, Arizona

While they are relatively close to the devastation, our family remains safe from the Los Angeles fires, and so far out of the path of the current winds. They remain vigilant.

January 1, any year.

A number on a calendar with such weighty expectations.

We actually wait for the number to arrive to begin lofty changes in our lives, create health goals, adjust attitudes, commit to more, less, bigger, smaller, always better versions of ourselves. Often the planning to do so lasts longer than the application of said changes.

The ideal us.

It seems the older we get, the less we set ourselves up to fail at these well-intentioned ideals. Whether experience or apathy, the changing of the year doesn't seem to have the same power it once did.

The real us.

Living in the Now. Being grateful. Recognizing joy. Throwing pixie dust. These are more likely to be on our "lists" this year.

Cheers for success with all of them for all of us!

January is usually our coldest month with signs of Spring often showing up sometime in February. This year started out looking like we'd just skip Winter. Enough of us whined about it that Mother Nature eventually granted our wishes and brought the freezing temps and strong winds and even some snow. I, for one, appreciate her efforts and am hopeful there's more of the same to come. The 2025 Farmers' Almanac says we're supposed to have a wet winter-season. So far Mother and Farmer are not communicating as we are dry, dry, dry here. We're only two weeks in so there's time for predictions to become reality. Fingers crossed!

24 hours later the white fluff still finds some white stuff to explore.

Rebecca's home includes a short ski run early in the day. When I drop her off a few hours later it's all gone.

Speckled Italian Cypress against slate skies.

It doesn't take much to change the feel of our arid desert, short-lived as it is.

Only five years-old, our couch needs replacing. Need might be a stretch, but I need a change in seating options for our living room. And weirdly, I love shopping for furniture! A trip to Tucson finds me what I'm looking for only to find out after the great hunt that they no longer deliver to Tombstone :-((

Grilled lobster and asparagus salad at Wildflower helps this seem less of a wasted trip!

I'm surprised to find Ashley's also has a location in Green Valley. A small town between Tucson and Tubac, I've never been and had incorrectly assumed it was a small community with little commercial options. A phone call confirms they will deliver to Tombstone so a few days later Rebecca joins me for more fun shopping.

Even better, they have the same pieces I wanted at their other store (not always the case) so it's a quick stop to give them my money. Less than two weeks to deliver - yay!

With no great eateries in our "town" of Sierra Vista, it's a treat to find a delicious Mediterranean option in Green Valley. We enjoy excellent food and service at Brindis Bistro's tiny indoor space, attached to a large (but too cold this day) dining patio.

On the rare occasions I see the sun rise, they are never this amazing!! What an awesome way to start the day.

The skies put on a show in every direction.

After this auspicious beginning, the day is surprisingly "regular".

Several years of owning and living in an RV, we're familiar with how everything works. Changing RVs means we're no longer familiar with how everything works! I have a short list of items that aren't working, or just as likely that I don't know how to work, so I'm off to Camping World in Tucson with a morning appointment.

For years I bragged about the service at the Tucson Camping World, but post-COVID that service declined significantly. As a result we took the coach to a local shop with mostly good experience.

Since we bought PJ at said CW, I make the service appointment there with fingers crossed. I'm happy to say they've restore my positive opinion!

Tim fixes two of the items in the parking lot before doing a work order (and before an invoice is created). Then when the technician is delayed on another job he fixes the step that won't stay out when the switch is on. Turns out it's a fuse for the switch located in an obsure (of course) place that he quickly replaces. No charge, have a nice day, let me know if you need anything.......lovely!

While waiting I also get an estimate for installing the levelers I want, as well as one for replacing the dinnette with recliners. Khalil is also amazing, making several phone calls to find what we need (levelers), as well as pointing out where I could save some money on the parts. Lovely again!!

In addition to the good service experience, taking PJ into town, and making stops for fuel and baked treats, on my own is easy and pleasant. I continue to be very happy we did the down-size.

PJ in her new home base. Like in our driveway, I'm able to get her completely level. We'll still add the levelers for other locations, but for now it's another positive :-))

Elliott ready for the Target catalog.

Big-girl Reese shows off her adorable freckles.

Sweet Ezra cuddles with Frog the cat.

Lucky M & M visit the Rose Parade floats with Mom and Dad (the photographer).

  1. I agree, totally, with your New Years resolutions, being in the "now", being grateful, recognizing joy, helping others, having fun, stepping outside your comfort zone once in a while, and - pixie dust? I'll need to know more about that one! Glad you're happy with little PJ and that you were able to make things work. Great Grand photos, as usual!

    1. Jeff's dad was a big Peter Pan fan and had lots of "takes" on pixie dust and where to find it, we'll have to add that discussion to our next meet up! I'm still surprised everytime I see how fast the grands are growing up :-)))

  2. At this point in our lives I'm just wishing everyone and us a healthy, happy New Year with new adventures. Living our lives to the fullest is our goal. You have PJ to look forward to in future travels. It definitely is SO much easier driving the small unit around. We can buy fuel wherever and...stop at most Starbucks!! And we can make U-turns if we miss something. All these work even with a tow. So much more relaxing. Glad you were able to get the small things on PJ's repaired quickly. Recliners are really nice and was my #1 requirement. Hope you are able to get them put in. I didn't realize you had light snow. Some moisture is better than none. We can't even remember when we actually had any moisture at all. It's crazy. Hope you are able to get out and try out PJ. Our RV spot is open any time with full hook ups! Love the grands smiling faces:)

    1. I'm sure having the smaller rig is going to be great. Not just the size but the simplicity of less things to go wrong :-)) That fuel stop at a normal gas station was another plus. The snow was a surprise but we need so much more. I'd love to get PJ up there for a visit!

  3. LOL! Do you have darts to select this year's resolutions?
Pixie dust! Good call. I've read so many Tony Hilleman novels I did a pinch of pollen to the rising sun for a few years. Not sure it changed m life and more than pixie dust.
An Awesome Sunrise! Are you inspired to get up early again?
We did the Rose Bowl pre-parade float building, and also the post-parade float viewing. It's a great experience

    1. I'm confident that honoring the beginning of the new day makes a difference - even if it's only in our own outlook :-) I am actually more inspired to look for another amazing sunrise! On the bucket list for years, I never did get to the parade floats. I'm so glad M&M got to see them this year.

  4. Ohhh--new furniture, always fun--not for my husband but it is for me! I'm glad the new smaller rig is working out--I loved our Class C--loved being able to drive it anywhere, take Emmi and leave the air conditioning running--but alas, the husband didn't like it. Arizona needs moisture--we have yet to see a drop this winter--so, I hope the Almanac's predictions are correct--and that rain comes soon! Our January isn't off to a good start with a nasty, nasty bug affecting both of us and the guests we had over the weekend. :( :( Hoping for better times soon!

  5. Good morning Jodee! What a wonderful post…full of reminders, a gorgeous sunrise ( My favorite time of day!), snow (Always exciting!) , and a yummy salad at Wildflower (Made my mouth water!), and a new Bistro (Yipee for a new place to go!) in Green Valley! Welcoming a new year is exciting…a bit more simple for us these days…but we like it that way too! A cat named Frog?…just curious…might just be a great title for a children’s book. I love those freckles!

    1. Simple is just the best for so many of us. Although I'm sure Lucy adds a bit of excitement! Frog is named for Ezra's dad's favorite video game character. I had to ask :-)))))

  6. I love your "list." You named the exact things that are my touchstones, too...gratitude, being present, and cultivating joy. I think they're more important now than ever before in our lives and in the world. And then it's also fun to get a new sofa. :-)) I hope you got one where you can sit back comfortably and have your feet touch the floor at the same time. That's my criteria for a comfortable couch, lol. And I'm so happy you're happy with your smaller RV!

    1. Feet touching the floor - yes! Some of them are so deep my legs stick straight out :-) Driving the little RV made me appreciate just what a big vehicle I've been piloting all these years!

  8. Love your New Year’s musings and graphics. I hardly notice the New Year any more. I hardly know what day of the week it is let alone what date. My mottos for some time now have been Pay Attention, See the Wonder, Show Gratitude, Offer praise.

How great that you had some snow and spring starts in February. Being in Florida, I don’t know what season it is. Maybe if I were ever here in April or July, I could tell the difference. That part of chasing 70 degrees isn’t great. I do love to see the seasons change and the farm has all 4. It’s just tooooo hot and toooo cold in the middle of those two. I went to Maryland to visit Carrie and that was enough cold for me. She didn’t get her snow unfortunately until several weeks after I left. Could we move Christmas to January to increase chances of a white one?

The speckled cypress photo is wonderful. Glad you were able to find the couch you wanted nearby. Seems amazing to me that you could find the very same thing. You also seem to find the most delicious looking food. Is there a secret to that? I’m always in a new spot and don’t know how to find the delicious foods. Google has failed me too many times.

I’m a sunrise person and boy do you have them. Great pictures! Being on the west coast of Florida they are hard to come by now. So glad to hear you are happy with your Camping World. I’ve never found one I could trust so I stop going. Every time I hear more about PJ and the ease of driving, parking and going to places my 35’ couldn’t go, I wish I could afford to downsize but then there is A, B and C that talk me out of it. And of course you also have darling grandchildren…..and so many it seems to me with only 2 to keep track of.

    1. My mom always told me the secret to life and everything was Pay Attention. It has served me well over the years. I like the rest of yours too! I'm super happy with the furniture which has been delivered and already feels like home. We do find some food fails, but Tucson has some especially great healthy artisan options that keep me coming back for more. On the road Bill usually finds a 4+ review place with menu items we both like before we sit down to eat. As sweet as Winona is I know you'd enjoy a smaller rig. I haven't towed with PJ yet, or backed into a space. I hope both are as easy as in the coach!
