More Days Pass - And Snow!

January 22 - February 7, 2021
Tombstone, Arizona

I'm not sure how time continues to move along so quickly even when we're not doing much to keep busy!

Our big excitement is the two days of snow - real snow that lasts on the ground :-)

I'm in town when the drizzle starts getting serious.

Heavy snowfall covers the roads quickly, and by the time I get to the house the world looks completely different!

For a few hours the snow comes down sideways.

For many in the country the white stuff is not something to get excited about, but for us this is great fun! The very few times I've been in falling snow (I can count them on one hand), I'm always in awe at the quiet it wraps around me.

Tessa loves it too, but her zoomies are so fast I can't catch a single pic. Within minutes her tracks are covered.

The next morning brings the sun and we're treated to a bright white wonderland. It doesn't last much past noon, but it's beautiful!

Wish he was here to play in our snow, but Ezra is enjoying his own back in California!

Before it completely disappears I take a drive to capture the snow through Gleeson, take a peek at the Chiracahuas, and enjoy the Mules across the dusted plains. What a treat!!

"We're always this color!"

So crisp and clean!

Although we're unclear on when we'll be able to get our vaccines (hoping for the next phase so at least Bill can get his), I spend a couple days finalizing reservations through July 17. I'm especially excited about the notification from Harris Beach State Park in Oregon that I secured the week in May I was on the waiting list for! A few days near my cousin recently "found", and the July 4th weekend are also confirmed.

It's sounding less and less likely that we'll be able to get into Canada the end of July so I finalize an alternate route that gets us to Deer Lodge, Montana, on the same dates. With a week's reservation at Henry's Lake near Yellowstone in August it's important to keep to a plan that keeps us en route for that. This includes a few days in Polson, Montana, to explore Flathead Lake. Glad I checked availability as I get the last site in the area (for weekdays, water and 30 amp!). This is not a summer for "winging it" I'm afraid.

Of course now I'm even more anxious to get back on the road!!

Bill and I spend a few hours gathering rocks for our dry riverbed, enjoying the wide open spaces we have available to us. He and Donnie play Cribbage at least once a day, usually again in the evening. Grocery pickup and take-out trips to Sierra Vista, and an occasional drive to Bisbee for something "different" round out our current days.

When dining rooms are closed........

I always think that old San Francisco must have resembled present day Bisbee.

A happy surprise is finding Steven and Debbie (Down the Road) in our little corner of Arizona! They make the drive over from the refuge for an afternoon visit before they continue north. It's amazing how many of the same people we all know - all friends we've made since we hit the road! Great to get caught up until the next time :-)

We stay home for the Super Bowl this year. Just as well, it's disappointing with a lackluster half-time and so-so commercials (haven't they become just as much a reason to watch?). Our good friends include us in the annual pool and I win two of the quarters so that's a silver lining! Just five months until Bill's Cowboys and my Steelers play the Hall of Fame game........

Growing so fast, Elliott rocks a new 'do!

  1. Your snow was beautiful. I'm glad you got to experience it. This post is timely for me, I've been dragging my feet making my spring and early summer reservations because of - you know.....but now realize I'd better get going! Oregon coast is on our soft plan also as we make our way north to Spokane to spend some much anticipated time with Jesse and Erin.

Bisbee...one our favorite stops, thanks for taking us there today.

    1. Thanks for coming along :-)

We'll be in Oregon mid May to mid June, maybe we'll get a chance to meet up (surely we'll all be vaccinated by then!). Hope all your want-to places have the perfect spot for you!

  3. Like others we too plan to travel this year. Gotta get planning ...
Snow looks like a fun time. When the local mountains get just a bit, it brings out a lot of traffic.

    1. I imagine the road up to Mt Lemmon was packed for a few days - might even be some left up there. I was surprised at the places already full or near full :-(

    1. You've had more rain so I guess it's a balance! They were so pretty with the white all the way to the valley.

  6. You received a lot of snow! Wow! It is amazing how peaceful it becomes as the snow falls and covers everything. The mountains are beautiful. I am sorry we missed the snow here while we were in BS. What a great surprise to have Debbie and Steve in the area. I do have to get to late spring/summer plans, as well. We are hoping to rebook most of our original plan from 2020. I would like to get the first vaccine shot before we actualy commit. John got a call today that he could get his first shot tomorrow (he's 70 and that's what they are doing)but we decided to wait til we can both go at the same time. We are hoping to hear real soon. We are on the list. Take care!! Good to see you both in the photo.

    1. Several of our folks here are getting their vaccines. Just hoping the next phase kicks in quickly so Bill can get both of his (me too, fingers crossed) before mid April.
Wish we had more snow but that two days was wonderful. Now we're just hoping for some rain!

  7. Snow in the desert always seems so amazing. It is the quiet heauty of it that I love most too. I always wish the world would just hit pause for as long as it lasts. Your snow pictures are besutiful. It always looks so serene. I'm not sure what to do anout summer plans. Definitely feeling the pressure. And how to get the vaccine if you move every two weeks.

    1. I agree hitting pause to enjoy the peace would be lovely. The being in one place long enough for the second dose is a real challenge until the J&J vaccine comes out with the single dose. With the additional sites being set up and more doses going to CVS and Walgreens I'm optimistic today.

  8. What beautiful snow pics! I like your comparison with Bisbee snd SF. We decided to skip Chiricahua and save it for another time since we couldn’t manage to scope out the boondocking site. We have enjoyed Roper Lake. Cute grandbaby pic!

  9. What a beautiful white surprise. I am not overly fond of snow but appreciate the beauty, and as you say the quiet. Being I work summers I have never played the reservation game.

  11. Wait...what happened to the past three days?? I saw your post when it came in and now suddenly it's three days later. Time is just so strange right now, we're not making progress on any decisions about staying/leaving/traveling. And summer is right around the corner. Help! Will you decide for us??
Anyway, it's so fun that you had snow! It's especially enjoyable when you don't have to live in it for months, but can just enjoy the magic of an unexpected snowfall. Your little adventures sound like fun—how cool that Bisbee is in your backyard!

    1. LOL - make plans for going, you can always cancel when the time comes and you're not feeling safe to go. Bay St Louis and Natchez Trace in Mississippi then continue north to Minnesota and west on Hwy 2 to Glacier National Park. Then you're on your own! Bisbee is a treat for sure.
